“NEVER ENOUGH”
With Never Enough, Vincent Lagrange enters a new chapter in his artistic practice. Internationally recognized for his psychologically charged photographic portraits, he now moves beyond the camera into sculptural form — not as a departure, but as a necessity. At first glance, the works appear serene. Luminous white, organic volumes unfold within wooden frames, their surfaces refined and inviting. Yet the frame is not decorative. It functions as a boundary — ecological, societal, personal. What unfolds within it is something far less stable.
Each sculpture captures a precise tipping point: the instant when abundance becomes excess. Not collapse, not aftermath — but the moment pressure turns visible. The forms expand, press, and strain. In some works, they remain contained in tense silence. In others, they break through entirely, extending beyond their borders like landscapes that no longer recognize their own limits.
The dialogue between containment and overflow defines the series. Without the frame there would be chaos; with it, there is drama. The work exists in that fragile balance.
Originally conceived as photography, the project demanded physical presence. The subject — the seduction of “more” — required volume and depth. Over nearly two years of concentrated studio isolation, Lagrange mastered new techniques to execute every stage himself. Concept and material are inseparable.
What makes Never Enough compelling is its duality. The works are visually seductive — refined, luminous presences that command space with quiet authority. Yet beneath their elegance lies recognition. Greed rarely appears grotesque; it feels warm, ambitious, alive. The cost reveals itself only later.
These sculptures do not condemn. They observe.
