Artist statement
“My work is a tribute to nature’s own packaging: I find the form, function, and colours of fruit peels simply brilliant.” (Isabel Ritter)
“Freshness – summer – Capri – holidays” were some of the first associations that came to mind when we saw Isabel Ritter’s brightly glowing yellow lemon peel. Trained as a sculptor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, she has created, in her most recent series, a wide variety of fruit peels rendered in different forms and compositions.
“It is not only a pleasure to look at them; the inherent contradiction within the sculptures also sparks curiosity. Fruit peels, objects that are normally discarded without a second thought, have been preserved by the artist in bronze — an almost indestructible material — and thus transformed into something timeless.” (Dr. Annika Landmann, ARTEAMS, Hamburg)
