Germination 030
Technique: sculpture in Corten steel
Size: H: 250 cm
I use steel. I have the feeling that no other material has this living character and this sensual density although it is industrially manufactured. I like this paradox. They are rather organic and simple shapes, without any story. They can suggest species, undefined kinds where we can find female, male, plant, animal and human kind. The balance, over the space associated with their monumental presence, the aspect of the material which is sometimes oxidized, painted or with a patina, sometimes grainy or smooth, the exclusively curved line and totemic volume or on the contrary deployed horizontally are the components of these sculptures.
The series of sculptures Germination that I started more than three years ago get onto the development of a form from one point to another. I use the process of plant germination as a model.
Each sculpture is created one after the other. The carrying out the first one contain the shape of the next one Each one is like a freeze frame in the entire development. Up to now, the 27th form of germination is completed; therefore it means that the last sculpture contains all the previous ones.
