Jan Vanovermeire (°29th sept 1977)

Jan Vanovermeire has a degree in Jurisprudence and in Social and Cultural Anthropology (magna cum laude). He has exhibited his painting-, photographic- and installing-arts in his home country as well as abroad under the pseudonym JVO. Between 2000 and 2005, he has had 17 solo-expositions and 3 group-expositions in Paris, Berlin, Barcelona-Ibiza, Brussels and Vienna. In 2001 and 2003, he exhibited in the buildings of "SD Works" and "VEV", the Brouwersvliet, and in the offices of the "Antwerp Business Centre International", all of which in Antwerp.

Starting 2008, Vanovermeire was a guest in Yvan De Backer and Chrystine Comyns top gallery: Absolute Art Gallery, which can be found in a top grade location in the centre of Knokke-Zoute. At the moment, JVO is preparing his first exhibit in this gallery, surrounded by about ten representatives from the art world (graphic and design), as well as the corporate world.

From 2000 until 2004, JVO wrote for the newspaper "De Morgen" and during this time he published about 40 articles in national and international illustrated magazines. In 2000, 2001 and 2002, he operated as a political and cultural correspondent for "De Morgen" from Paris, where he lives close to the Sorbonne, Paris V as a student in Jurisprudence. In the meantime, 166 of his articles were published in "De Morgen", including interviews with the Belgian ambassador in Paris, the mayor of Paris (Bertrand Delanoë) and several other French political personalities. He also did interviews and reportages for "Knack" and other publications of the Flemish Community, concerning juridical, political and social subjects.

For the moment, JVO stays affiliated with the "Vlaamse Balie" in Ghent as an attorney. He specialises in criminal law. He remains active as such for the office of Callant-Van den Daelen-Geers. Concerning his specialisation in Anthropology, JVO will finish his doctorate in Anthropological Sciences in the University of Ghent come fall (2008). This doctorate is supervised by Professor Doctor Hendrik Pinxten. Jan Vanovermeire has already delivered several scientific publications in his field in Switzerland, England and also in specialised Belgian illustrated magazines such as "Panopticon", "Ethiek en Maatschappij", and has also published some books.

The main idea connecting all his articles, juridical and scientific publications, both national and international, as well as the artistic projects, is his progressive, sometimes anarchistic, sometimes contemplative, ways of thinking. Dead serious subjects are approached from a refined humoristic angle, one of JVO's trademarks.
